Last week Ericsson agreed to pay $1.13 billion for the Nortel Wireless business, which increases the speculation on the future outcome for the Nortel Enterprise auction. Starting way before Avaya’s $0.475 billion stalking horse bid for Nortel Enterprise, announced a week ago, the range of opinions and such have been pretty broad, but according to this Brainshark, not broad enough.

This Brainshark reviews the recent history and several market features that suggests that this deal is the only way for Microsoft to quickly penetrate the enterprise VoIP market. So far, the OCS and ResponsePoint products are under-featured and weak in distribution. This is a case of spend a billion over a decade to maybe get 20% share, or spend a billion (or two) and get 20% share before Christmas.

I know what I would recommend…
